Back to Basics Birthing : Vicki Hobbs

These classes are designed to provide women and their partners with knowledge and skills relating to pregnancy, labour, birth and beyond to create a positive birthing experience.

Session 1: Understanding the Mind-Body Connection & Birth Physiology

In this session, we’ll explore the powerful connection between the mind and body during birth. You’ll learn:

  • The role of the neocortex and why it’s important to switch off the thinking brain during labour
  • How your partner and birth team can support you
  • What hypnobirthing is and how it works
  • How fear impacts labour and birth, and ways to minimise it
  • Your birthing options and key questions to ask your care provider about policies and procedures
  • How to create a birth plan that reflects your wants and needs
  • The perception of pain, how it influences your birth experience, and strategies for managing it
  • The physiology of birth – understanding how your body and baby work together during labour

Session 2: Birth Hormones, Breathing & Pain Management Techniques

This session delves deeper into the physiological and practical aspects of birth, including:

  • The hormonal physiology of labour and how to work with your body’s natural hormones
  • Breathing techniques to stay calm and focused
  • The stages of labour and what to expect at each stage
  • Birthing the placenta—what happens after birth and your options
  • How to set up your birth environment for comfort and relaxation
  • Fear release techniques to let go of any concerns
  • Pain relief options
  • Using the five senses to enhance relaxation and comfort – visualisation, positive affirmations, using essential oils, creating your music playlist and touch
  • Bonus: Time permitting, I’ll guide you through a deep relaxation meditation that previous participants have found incredibly beneficial

Session 3: Hands-On Comfort Measures & Partner Support

This final session is entirely focused on practical, hands-on techniques that you and your birth partner can use during labour, including:

  • Comfort measures and active birthing techniques so you are both an active participant, not a passive bystander
  • Massage and acupressure for labour support
  • My new “Maternal Alignment Blueprint” – a program I have developed to guide women to optimise stability, mobility, and space – foundations for a smoother birth journey and to help babies get into an optimum position for birth.
  • Gentle stretching techniques to encourage movement and flexibility
  • The use of a rebozo for relaxation, positioning, and comfort
  • Bonus: With this additional session, there’s now ample time for partners to practice these techniques without feeling rushed

These sessions provide a well-rounded, fun and interactive approach to birth preparation, ensuring you and your partner feel confident, informed, and supported.

It runs over 3 evenings from 6pm till 9pm at Wellness on Whatley, 162 Whatley Crescent, Maylands and includes refreshments.
