BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT
Breastfeeding Consultant Perth
Warm, practical and evidence-informed care that sees the whole picture — you, your baby and the feeding relationship you are building together.
Breastfeeding may be natural, but that doesn’t mean it always comes easily.
If feeding is painful, confusing or simply not unfolding as you hoped, you don’t need another list of rigid rules. You need someone to slow things down, listen properly, look at what is happening and help you find a way forward that works for both you and your baby.
Breastfeeding support should leave you feeling more capable — not more judged.
Warm, individualised breastfeeding support at The Village Wellness Centre in West Perth or in the comfort of your own home.
Why can breastfeeding feel so difficult?
You may have been told that breastfeeding is natural, that it shouldn’t hurt or that getting a “good latch” will solve everything.
Then your baby feeds constantly, slips on and off, becomes unsettled at the breast, you are sore, or concerns are raised about milk supply or weight gain. It can quickly feel as though your body — or your baby — is failing.
But breastfeeding is not a test of motherhood.
A breastfeed is a complex interaction between two people. Comfort and milk transfer can be influenced by how you and your baby fit together, your baby’s stability at the breast, your birth and recovery, milk production, feeding behaviours and what is happening across your whole day and night.
Sometimes the answer is a small practical adjustment. Sometimes we need to look at the whole feeding picture.
The first step is understanding what is happening.
A whole-picture approach to breastfeeding
Breastfeeding is often reduced to “the latch” or milk supply.
I prefer to begin by understanding how feeding is working for both you and your baby — and what will actually be sustainable for your family.

More than “the latch”
Comfort and milk transfer are shaped by how you and your baby fit together.
Small changes to your baby’s stability and your fit and hold can make an enormous difference — without forcing either of you into a textbook position.

You matter too
Your birth, recovery, breast health, milk production, pain, sleep and emotional wellbeing all belong in the conversation.
A feeding plan is only useful if it is workable and sustainable for you.

Your baby matters
Your baby’s gestation, birth, temperament, feeding cues, sensory needs, sleepiness and behaviour all help us understand what they are communicating.
This allows us to work with your individual baby rather than expecting every baby to feed in exactly the same way.
Less pain. Less confusion.
More comfort. More confidence.
Breastfeeding isn’t about achieving the “perfect latch”.
It’s about helping feeding work comfortably for you and your baby.
What we might explore together
Every breastfeeding story is different. We’ll focus on what is making feeding difficult for you and work out practical changes that respect your baby’s biology, your wellbeing and your own feeding goals.
Comfort and breast health
We can explore nipple pain or damage, breast tissue drag, breast inflammation, oversupply and small changes to positioning that may make feeding feel more comfortable.
Your baby’s feeding behaviour
We can make sense of sleepy, unsettled or very frequent feeding, fussing at the breast, “wind” behaviours and changes as your baby grows.
Milk supply and transfer
We’ll look at how your baby is taking milk, your milk production, weight gain and whether expressing, top-ups or additional feeding support are genuinely needed.
A plan that works in real life
Together, we can create a realistic plan for breastfeeding, expressing, bottles, mixed feeding, returning to work—or whatever reaching your own feeding goals looks like.
What to expect from your consultation
This is much more than a quick latch check. We’ll take time to understand what has happened since your baby’s birth, what is worrying you and what you would like breastfeeding to look like.
During your 90-minute initial consultation, I’ll observe a full breastfeed and gently assess how you and your baby fit together, milk transfer, your breast and nipple comfort and your baby’s feeding behaviour.
Together, we’ll make practical changes and create a personalised feeding plan that feels realistic for your family—not a long list of instructions that leaves you feeling overwhelmed.
You’ll also receive relevant written resources and one week of follow-up text or email support for brief questions about implementing the plan we created during your consultation.
Choose the support that fits
Whether you’re preparing before birth, struggling with breastfeeding now or need some focused follow-up support, you can choose the appointment that best matches what is happening for you.

This support is designed to help you implement and clarify the feeding plan we created together. It doesn’t include a separate phone call or an ongoing assessment by message.
Messages are helpful for:
- Clarifying something in your feeding plan
- Letting me know how an agreed change is going
- One or two brief questions about the concern we assessed
- Checking whether you have understood a recommendation correctly
Another appointment is better when:
- A new or different feeding concern has appeared
- Your baby’s feeding behaviour has changed significantly
- We need to review detailed photos, videos or feeding history
- Your feeding plan needs substantial changes
- I need to observe another breastfeed or reassess you and your baby
