Confident, Calm and Ready: Bringing Your Birth Preparation Together
You may have listened to podcasts, read books, attended classes or spent hours learning about birth. But as your due date approaches, it can be difficult to know how everything fits together and whether your partner feels as prepared as you do.
This practical Birth Preparation Masterclass in Perth is designed to help you bring all that learning together, fill in the gaps and prepare to approach labour and birth as a team.
Rather than simply giving you more information, we’ll focus on turning what you know into practical skills you can use on the day. Your birth partner will gain a clearer understanding of labour, what you may need at different stages and how they can provide calm, confident and effective support.
In this small, hands-on workshop, with a maximum of five couples, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to practise together, ask questions and leave feeling more prepared for the birth ahead.

Practical, Hands-On Birth Support Skills
This is not a lecture-style antenatal class.
It is an interactive workshop where you and your partner will practise:
- Breathing and relaxation techniques for labour
- Acupressure for pregnancy, labour and birth
- Massage and effleurage
- Positions and movement for labour and birth
- Rebozo techniques for comfort and support
- Ways your partner can help create a calm, supportive birth environment
- How to adapt your tools as labour unfolds
*If you are planning to use hypnobirthing, we’ll also look at how your partner can support your hypnobirthing practice and help protect the environment you need during labour.
Advocacy & navigating the system
Feeling prepared for birth is not only about learning comfort techniques. It is also about knowing how to communicate, ask questions and make decisions when plans change.
We’ll explore how birth partners can:
- Help you feel safe, seen and heard
- Ask useful questions without creating conflict
- Support you to understand your options
- Give you time and space to make informed decisions
- Advocate for your preferences while remaining flexible
- Stay calm and supportive if birth takes an unexpected turn
These skills can help you feel more confident navigating any birth environment, whether you are planning to give birth at home, in a birth centre or in hospital.
What You’ll Leave With
By the end of the workshop, you will have:
- A clearer understanding of how labour may unfold
- A practical toolkit of comfort and coping techniques
- Greater confidence using movement, positioning, touch and acupressure
- A shared understanding of your birth preferences
- Strategies for communicating and making decisions if plans change
The goal is not to memorise the “right” way to give birth. It is to help you feel prepared to respond to whatever your birth brings.

When Birth Doesn’t Follow the Plan
Good birth preparation is not about assuming everything will unfold exactly as hoped.
We’ll discuss how birth partners can remain actively involved and supportive if labour is induced, pain relief is used or birth becomes more medicalised. Even when plans change, there are still many ways to protect connection, communication and a sense of involvement in decision-making.
Why this matters
Birth is not a spectator experience.
Your partner has a powerful role to play in helping you feel safe, supported and able to work with your body. But partners often arrive at the final weeks of pregnancy feeling unsure about what labour will look like or what they are supposed to do.
When you both understand the process, have practised together and have a toolkit of practical strategies to draw on, your partner can become an active and reassuring part of your birth team.
This workshop is about helping you feel connected, prepared and ready to meet birth together.
Who this is for
This Perth birth preparation class is ideal for couples who:
- Have already done some birth preparation and want to bring everything together
- Feel that one person has done more preparation than the other
- Want to help their birth partner feel more confident and involved
- Want practical, hands-on skills rather than another information-heavy class
- Would like to refresh their knowledge before birth
- Want to practise responding to the different stages and challenges of labour
- Are planning a hospital, birth centre or home birth
You do not need to have completed a particular birth course or hypnobirthing programme to attend.
Is This a Complete Antenatal Course?
This masterclass is designed primarily for couples who have already done some learning and want to consolidate it through discussion and hands-on practice.
If you have done very little birth preparation, you are still welcome to attend, but you may benefit from completing some foundational learning beforehand. Please contact me if you are unsure whether this workshop will meet your needs.
