Frequently Asked Questions
When should I attend this workshop?
Most couples attend between 25 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. Attending earlier gives you more time to practise the relaxation, breathing, and birth preparation techniques you’ll learn in the workshop. However, it’s never too late to attend if you’re further along in your pregnancy.
Why is the workshop only one day?
Many expectant parents struggle to fit multiple classes into already busy lives. That’s why I’ve designed this workshop as a comprehensive one-day intensive.
Over the course of a full day, you’ll receive the same depth of education that is often spread across several weeks, while also benefiting from the continuity of learning everything together. By the end of the day, you’ll have a clear understanding of labour, birth, breastfeeding, newborn behaviour, and the transition to parenthood.
But be warned, it is an intensive day!
I’ve already done a lot of research. Is this workshop still worth attending?
Absolutely.
Many parents who attend my workshop have already read books, listened to podcasts, followed birth educators online, completed online courses, watched countless videos, or attended hospital antenatal classes.
What they often tell me is that they have lots of information but aren’t quite sure how it all fits together.
Birth is about more than collecting information. It’s about understanding what matters most, how to apply that knowledge in the moment, and how all the pieces connect, from labour physiology and pain management to birth partner support, breastfeeding, and early parenting.
My role is to help you cut through the noise, make sense of the evidence, and leave with a practical plan that feels right for you and your family.
How is this workshop different from hospital antenatal classes?
Unlike many hospital antenatal classes, this workshop is independent and evidence-based. You’ll learn practical tools and techniques, explore your options, and gain a deeper understanding of labour, birth, breastfeeding, and early parenting.
As an independent educator, I’m not limited by hospital policies or protocols. My focus is helping you understand your options so you can make informed decisions that are right for you and your baby.
Does this workshop include hypnobirthing?
Yes. You’ll learn practical hypnobirthing techniques including breathing, relaxation, visualisation, self-hypnosis, and mindset tools.
These techniques are integrated with current evidence about labour physiology, pain science, and the neurobiology of birth, making them useful regardless of where or how you plan to give birth.
Will my birth partner learn how to support me during labour?
Absolutely.
Birth partners play a vital role in labour and birth. Your partner will learn practical support skills, including massage, acupressure, positioning, advocacy, communication techniques, and how to help create a calm and supportive birth environment.
Many couples tell me this is one of the most valuable parts of the workshop.
Does this workshop include breastfeeding education?
Yes.
Breastfeeding preparation is a major component of the workshop, because the first hours and days are so critical for breastfeeding success. You’ll learn how breastfeeding works, your baby’s natural feeding instincts and reflexes, the importance of the first hours after birth, and how to give breastfeeding the best possible start.
You’ll also learn what is normal in the early days so you can approach feeding with confidence.
Do you cover newborn sleep and early parenting?
Yes.
We discuss normal newborn behaviour, infant sleep biology, responsive parenting, the science of the parental brain, and what to realistically expect during the early weeks with your baby.
The workshop is designed to prepare you not just for birth, but for the transition to parenthood.
Is this workshop suitable for first-time parents?
Absolutely.
Most attendees are expecting their first baby, but many parents having their second, third, or fourth baby also attend because they want a different experience, more practical tools, or more comprehensive information than they received previously.
What is included in the workshop fee?
Your workshop fee includes:
- One full day of intensive childbirth, breastfeeding, and early parenting education
- Two comprehensive eBooks
- Laminated labour and breastfeeding cheat sheets
- Guided relaxation downloads
- Ongoing support leading up to your birth
You’ll also receive discounts on my online courses, including The Positive Induction Online Course, Breastfeeding Essentials, and the Baby Sleep Masterclass.
Can I claim through my private health fund?
Some private health funds provide rebates for antenatal education with a registered midwife.
Policies vary considerably between providers and levels of cover. Please contact your health fund directly and ask whether they provide benefits for antenatal or childbirth education classes conducted by a registered midwife. I recommend doing this before booking to be sure.
I’m happy to provide my provider numbers and a detailed receipt to assist with any claim you may be eligible to make.
Do you offer private childbirth education sessions?
Yes.
If you can’t attend a group workshop or would prefer more personalised support, I also offer private birth preparation sessions tailored to your individual circumstances, birth preferences, and learning needs.
Where are the workshops held?
My workshops are held in Perth and are intentionally kept small to allow plenty of discussion, hands-on practice, and individual attention.
Please check the event details for the current venue and upcoming workshop dates.
What are the payment, cancellation, and refund policies?
Booking terms, payment schedules, cancellation policies, and refund conditions are outlined in the workshop Terms & Conditions.
Please take a moment to read these before booking, as they explain how deposits, transfers, cancellations, and refunds are handled.
If you have any questions about the Terms & Conditions or are unsure whether the workshop is right for you, please don’t hesitate to contact me before booking. This helps ensure we’re both clear about expectations and that you feel confident in your decision to attend.
